16 Aug Krista Hoevel Receives Bobby Jones Award

Krista Hoevel, LMHC, CSAYC, LCAC, Youth Opportunity Center (YOC) director of counseling services for residential programs, was recently honored for her statewide role in the field of treating sexually maladaptive youth. Hoevel received the 2016 Bobby Jones Award for Excellence at the IN-AJSOP (Indiana Association of Juvenile Sexual Offender Practitioners) conference on August 4 in Shelbyville, Ind. The award was created to honor the late Bobby Jones who was instrumental in developing IN-AJSOP’s training and credentialing programs.

IN-AJSOP is a statewide professional organization for organizations and individuals working with youth with sexual behavior problems. The YOC’s SMART (Sexually Maladaptive Adolescents in Residential Treatment) program is credentialed by the IN-AJSOP.

Hoevel was instrumental in the development of SMART. She currently oversees the treatment of SMART program clients and offers regular in-service training and guidance to the YOC clinicians who work with this population.

Hoevel, who holds a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and a master’s in counseling from Ball State University, began her service at the YOC as a counselor in 2005. She took on additional administrative and leadership duties in 2008 and was promoted to director of counseling in 2010.  In this role, she directly supervises YOC cottage counselors and participates as a member of the YOC’s management team in overseeing clinical services.  Also, she currently services as a practicum supervisor for IN-AJSOP.

Hoevel is a strong advocate for kids and works hard to mentor cottage counselors in providing the most appropriate services for the YOC’s clients.  She has received the YOC’s Clinical Award of Distinction on two occasions (2006, 2011) in recognition of her excellent work ethic and passion for helping others.
