18 Mar YOC Hosts Advanced CSEC Training On Campus
More than 120 individuals packed the training room at The Youth Opportunity Center in Muncie, Indiana on Friday, March 15, 2019 for an advanced training session on Legislation, Treatment and Service Provision for victims of Commercial Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking. Individuals who work with youth came from across Central Indiana to learn more from industry experts who presented at the event. Attendees included Department of Child Services representatives, juvenile probation officers and law enforcement officials.
The event was kicked off by Delaware County Circuit Court Judge Kimberly Dowling who provided an overview of human trafficking & sexual exploitation and an update on current and proposed legislation to address this growing issue. Dr. Katrina Mallory, PSY.D., HSPP, YOC’s TRU Harbor Program Director followed with a session addressing the mental health implications that victims of sexual exploitation deal with.
The training also included a session on treatment and direct intervention best-practices from Tracy McDaniel, CEO of Restored Inc. During lunch, a panel discussion with the three previous presenters allowed members of the audience to interact with the industry experts and ask questions. The training session was capped off with a special session for Law Enforcement that included FBI Special Agent Jeffrey Robertson.
